SVG Image Format

SVG Converter

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is a file format developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in 1999, in conjunction with Adobe Systems. This file format is used to create vector-based graphics that can be scaled to any size without losing quality. SVG files use an XML text-based format that details how the image should appear on screen. This instruction allows the image to be scaled up or down without impacting the quality of the graphic, and makes SVG great for web graphics, logos, icons, diagrams and other illustrations.

Because the SVG file format consistently retains image quality, it’s used widely online and for viewing images across various monitors, browsers, and electronic devices. However, older browsers can have problems supporting this file type. To open an SVG file, you can use applications that support vector graphics such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Inkscape, and GIMP.

PNG Image Format

PNG Converter

PNG is a common type of image file. The file extension PNG is short for ‘Portable Network Graphic’, and the format was created to offer improvements over the GIF format. Like JPG, PNG is a 2D ‘raster’ image format. However, unlike JPG, PNG files can have transparent or semi-transparent backgrounds around a design. This makes them perfect to use for company or brand logos or graphics that need to be placed in documents or over other images. They are also sometimes used for detailed graphs or diagrams online.

PNGs use lossless compression, which offers high-quality images with more colours. However, this often means PNG files are bigger than some other formats like JPG. The PNG format is open source, and you can open these files using almost all devices, image editors and viewers. Many smartphones now allow you to easily remove backgrounds and create PNGs of individual parts of photos.
