PPM Image Format PPM Converter
The PPM colour image format is no longer widely used, but it was developed in the 1980s for Portable Pixmap. PPMs are raster image files, which are made up of pixels in a grid. PPM files can store 24-bit colour depth per pixel, as well as dimensions and white-space data. Many raster image formats like JPG, PNG or GIF use compression to make the file size smaller, but PPM files are not compressed, so they can have very large file sizes that make the file much harder to share. With internet use becoming more common, more compressed formats became more popular.
Although PPM is a relatively rare format nowadays, there are a lot of programs that still support PPM files. Programs that can open PPM images include LibreOffice, GIMP, Adobe Photoshop, Corel PaintShop Pro, Canvas, Apple Preview and File Viewer for Android.

PNG Image Format PNG Converter
PNG is a common type of image file. The file extension PNG is short for ‘Portable Network Graphic’, and the format was created to offer improvements over the GIF format. Like JPG, PNG is a 2D ‘raster’ image format. However, unlike JPG, PNG files can have transparent or semi-transparent backgrounds around a design. This makes them perfect to use for company or brand logos or graphics that need to be placed in documents or over other images. They are also sometimes used for detailed graphs or diagrams online.
PNGs use lossless compression, which offers high-quality images with more colours. However, this often means PNG files are bigger than some other formats like JPG. The PNG format is open source, and you can open these files using almost all devices, image editors and viewers. Many smartphones now allow you to easily remove backgrounds and create PNGs of individual parts of photos.
