Q. Can you convert a PNG file to a PDF ?
There are a number of options open to you for converting your PNG file to PDF. You can use our own service Zamzar which allows you to convert files up to 50mb in size. If you wanted to go down the downloadable program route then you may need to consider whether you wanted to use a free tool such as ImageMagick, one point to note with this tool is that you will need to be quite comfortable with command line syntax so may not be for the beginner or if you are looking for a quick conversion. Another potential option is a paid tool, we here at Zamzar don't endorse any of these tools, however this one has had good reviews historically so could be an option - Wondershare PDFElement.
Q. How do I combine PNG to PDF ?
We are often asked here at Zamzar whether we can combine multiple PNG files into PDF. Unfortunately this is not something we presently offer. There are however other more specialist services out there which support this functionality and could be worth experimenting with. We came across this very good answer on SuperUser which lists a number of different options if you are converting on a Mac computer. If you were on a Windows machine then this step by step tutorial gave a good approach into converting your multple images into PDF. This particular example is geared towards Windows 10 machines specifically.
Q. How do I convert a PNG to a PDF in Windows 10 ?
In Windows 10 you can follow the following steps :
  • Step 1: Open File Explorer and find all the image(s) you want to convert.
  • Step 2: Right click the file in the File Explorer window and select the Print option. This should then open the print pictures dialogue.
  • Step 3: Select the quality and any other sizing information you need then select Print.
  • Step 4: Select PDF from the Save as type drop down box and type in the name you want to name the PDF file, then select Save.
Q. How do I convert a PNG to a PDF on a Mac ?
If you are on a Mac then you can follow the following steps :
  • Step 1: Open the image in the Preview program
  • Step 2: Select the file menu option and then select Print, you can use the shortcut of CTRL and P if wanted to.
  • Step 3: In the PDF dropdown box select "Save as PDF".
Q. How do I make a PNG transparent ?
Zamzar supports file conversion, however if you wanted to purely make a PNG file transparent then you could choose to use another online tool that is free - see Lunapic. We can't endorese this tool, however it seems to have some good online reviews and offers extended options such as image editing. If you had a file that you didn't want to upload to a cloud service then you could consider using a downloadable tool. If you were on a Windows machine then you could consider following this approach listed on WindowsReport. On a Mac you could use the Preview tool which has editing functionality. There is a good guide that we have come across here.

Technical File Information

File extension: .png
Category: Image
Description: PNG pronounced ping is a format for storing bitmapped (raster) images on computers. It was created originally to replace the GIF file format when it was announced that the companies who created the GIF format wanted royalties. PNG uses indexed colors and lossless compression (like a .GIF file), but without those copyright limitations; it cannot be animated like a GIF image.

Technical Details: PNG images are in many ways better than .GIF as they also include an 8-bit transparency channel, which allows the colors in the image to fade from opaque to transparent; GIF images only support fully opaque or fully transparent pixels. PNG supports palettes of 24-bit RGB colors, RGB images or greyscale or RGB images. PNG was intended to be able to transfer images on the Internet, not professional graphics, and so does not support other colour spaces (such as CMYK).
