WPS Document Format WPS Converter
The WPS file format was developed for Microsoft Works in the 1980s. Microsoft Works included a database system as well as spreadsheet and basic word processing functions, and WPS was the format for files created by the word processing part of the software. Microsoft retired Works in 2009 and stopped support for it a few years later. All the functions that used to be in Works are now covered by other Microsoft Office programs, like Word, Access and Excel, and you can import, export or copy a lot of data between these formats.
As the word processing program has been retired, WPS is no longer a common file type. However, you can usually still open WPS files within Microsoft Word and in certain other programs, including LibreOffice. It’s not usually possible to open WPS files in most other word processing programs, so you would need to convert the WPS file into another format first.
DOCX Document Format DOCX Converter
The DOCX format has been the standard format for Microsoft Word documents since 2007, replacing DOC. Microsoft Word is used widely in homes, workplaces and educational settings to create formatted text documents like reports, letters or resumes. As well as text, DOCX files can include pictures, tables, charts and embedded media, or can be an editable template.
The DOCX format has some advantages over DOC, including typically smaller file sizes and better security. DOCX is an Office Open XML file, making it easier to open DOCX files in other programs like LibreOffice, Google Docs or Apple Pages, with fewer compatibility issues. Word is part of Microsoft Office’s paid software application and is also available with an Office 365 online subscription. Microsoft Office was designed for Windows, but you can install Office apps on other operating systems. Microsoft also has a basic free ‘Word for the web’ programme for online Microsoft account holders.
How to convert a WPS to a DOCX file?
- 1. Choose the WPS file that you want to convert.
