PUB Document Format PUB Converter
Microsoft developed the PUB format for its desktop publishing program, Publisher, and this program is part of the wider Microsoft Office suite. Publisher helps users lay out text, images and charts, and therefore it’s often used for creating posters, newsletters or leaflets. Publisher files can incorporate vector images like EPS, as well as raster images like JPGs, and users can select from templates or create their own designs from scratch.
Microsoft Publisher is still included in the paid-for Office 365 software package; however, it’s not used as widely as it used to be. Most graphic designers will now use professional programs like Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW for posters or brochures, and casual users creating graphics, posters or social media posts may prefer to use Apple Pages or apps like Canva. As well as with Microsoft Publisher, you can open and edit PUB files using LibreOffice and also using some graphics programs, including CorelDRAW.
PS Document Format PS Converter
The programming language Adobe PostScript uses the PS file format. PostScript was introduced in 1982 as a way of turning digital text documents or images into a fixed format that was ready for print. Users with a PostScript-enabled printer could print PS files directly without opening them. PostScript is still available to download, but it has been mostly replaced by PDF, which is another Adobe product. PostScript is technically a vector graphics file and you can enlarge PS files for print or viewing without losing resolution. However, you can select, highlight and copy individual sections of text in a PDF, which isn’t possible in a PS file.
PS is no longer universally supported because it’s been replaced by PDF. However, you can open PS files in Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator and Photoshop, and create PS files using InDesign. You can also get plug-ins for some browsers that can support PostScript.
