Q. Some common problems opening DOC file(s) ?
Common issues that we have found here at Zamzar with DOC files is that they can often have been created in an earlier version of the Office software which can often cause issues, especially if the file is from pre Microsoft Office 1997. Another factor that we have often come across has been sometimes the file is password protected and without the password these files cannot be converted. Another issue that we have encountered is, as files get saved multiple times, or get sent from around data can be lost between versions of the file and this results in the file corrupting which again makes the file impossible to open and therefore something that can't convert.

Q. What alternatives have I got to Zamzar ?
If you have Microsoft Word installed on your computer and you are on a Mac then you could consider opening the Word document, exporting the file as a PDF (select File from the menu options, choose export from the menu and select PDF) and then open the resulting PDF file in the Mac Preview program and choose File and then the export menu option and choose JPG (note this will only export the first page to JPG). If you wanted to export all pages of the PDF to JPG then you could use the Automator application. We found a very good article here with a step by step approach on how to convert PDF's with multiple pages to JPG - please see Multipage PDF to JPG. If you are on a PC then you would open Microsoft Word, if you had that installed and export the file to PDF then you could use some downloadable software such as Docufreezer which is free to download and use in a non commercial environment. You could obviously make use of Zamzar's free PDF to JPG converter but this would be another option. If you didn't have Microsoft Office installed on your PC or Mac then you could consider downloading the free LibreOffice tool which allows you to open Microsft Word documents without Microsoft Office. From within here you could then export your Word document to PDF and use the steps we have outlined before to convert that PDF to JPG.

Q. What happens if Zamzar can't convert my file from DOC to JPG ? Or am I not happy with my conversion ?

Q. How can I open my converted JPG file ?

You could use a standard internet browser such Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Apple's Safari or Microsoft's Interent Explorer. If you didn't want to open it in an internet browser then if you were on a Mac you could use the Mac Preview application, if you were on a Windows PC then you could use the default Photos application. If you are still unsure what program to use and haven't found the results you needed on the internet then you could email our team at Zamzar here -

Technical File Information

File extension: .doc
Category: Document
Description: Doc (an abbreviation of document) is a file extension for word processing documents; it is associated mainly with Microsoft and their Microsoft Word application. Historically, it was used for documentation in plain-text format, particularly of programs or computer hardware, on a wide range of operating systems. Almost everyone would have used the doc file format, whenever you write a letter, do some work or generally write on your PC you will use the doc file format. It was in the 1990s that Microsoft chose the doc extension for their proprietary Microsoft Word processing formats. As PC technology has grown the original uses for the extension have become less important and have largely disappeared from the PC world.

Description: JPG's are often used for web sites and email as they are generally smaller file sizes as they are lossy meaning that some image quality is lost when the JPG is compressed and saved. The resultant 'lossy' file means that quality can never be recovered. The JPG format is often used in digital camera memory cards. The JPG file is a great format as it often manages to compress files to 1/10 of the size of the original file which is especially good for saving on bandwidth.

Technical Details: JPG is a graphical file format for editing still images, it offers a symmetrical compression technique which is processor intensive and time consiming in both compression and decompression. JPEG is a joint standard of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-T T.81) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 10918-1). JPEG involves a lossy compression mechanism using discrete cosine transform (DCT). Compression rates of 100:1 can be achieved, although the loss is noticeable at that level. Compression rates of 10:1 or 20:1 yield little degradation in image quality.
