MRW MRW (Image)

File extension .mrw
Category Image File
Description Minolta Co. Ltd is a Japanese company founded in 1928 which dominated the photographic scene right the way through to 2006 when they sold their camera business to Sony. Minolta developed the MRW RAW file format for their Digital SLR range of cameras but since the Sony sale the format has effectively been discontinued.
Technical Details The Minolta RAW format MRW is just pixel data with no in-camera processing performed on it as it comes directly off the CCD. The data is generally 8, 10 or 12 bits per pixel. The positive result of this is that file sizes are smaller than a standard TIFF file. As the image is captured in RAW form and has not been processed or white balanced it means you can process the images after they have been captured.
