Description | In 2007 Apple released the first of its range of iPhones. The touch screen device completely revolutionised the smartphone market and the iPhone established itself as the leading cutting edge mobile device. The iPhone introduced intuitive gestures such as pinching to zoom in which allowed users to enjoy content such as webpages and images more easily from a smaller screen. As of Q3 2012, Apple has sold over 200,000 iPhones. The range has undergone six revisions. The iPhone also saw the introduction of the App Store, a marketplace that allows users to create and sell their own applications for use on the smartphone. The success of apps has led to the creation of a new industry and attempts from all of Apple's rivals to create an imitation app repository for their devices. |

The iPhone 3GS supports a resolution up to 640x480. The range of resolutions supported will affect the types of video that can be used on the devices, with some higher resolution video incompatible with earlier iPhones. |

Technical Details | AVI is a derivative of the Resource Interchange File Format (RIFF), which divides a file's data into blocks, or chunks. Each chunk is identified by a FourCC tag. An AVI file takes the form of a single chunk in a RIFF formatted file, which is then subdivided into two mandatory chunks and one optional chunk. The first sub-chunk is identified by the hdrl tag. This sub-chunk is the file header and contains metadata about the video, such as its width, height and frame rate. The second sub-chunk is identified by the movi tag. This chunk contains the actual audio/visual data that make up the AVI movie. The third optional sub-chunk is identified by the idx1 tag which indexes the offsets of the data chunks within the file. |
