Description | Files with a .pages.zip file extension are word processing documents which are generated by Apple's "Pages" application in versions 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 (these versions of the software were released between 2005-2007). Technically speaking the files produced are packages, but since it is not possible to upload a package to a web service (as they are multiple files) Zamzar recommends compressing them into a ZIP file before upload.
The pages.zip format is distinct from the pages file produced by more modern versions of iWork which is a single file (and so does not need to be compressed). Pages is one of 3 programs which make up Apple's iWork office suite, a set of applications which run on the Mac OS X and iOS operating systems, also including Numbers (for spreadsheets) and Keynote (for presentations). |

Technical Details | Official file format specifications for iWork '05-'08 Keynote files are not published by Apple but there have been attempts by some developers to reverse engineer them.
Files created by Pages in iWork '05 - '08 are not compatibile with the most recent versions of iWork. In general Pages files cannot be opened by programs other than iWork. |

Category | eBook File |
Description | The ePUB file type is an open source format developed by the International Digital Publishing Forum (IDPF) . Based on XHTML, XML and CSS it works well with a number of software applications which has helped the popularity of the format grow. Despite this, there are a raft of rules that must be adhered to when creating an ePUB file which has attracted criticism of the format. The format allows DRM protection to be added to a file. |

Technical Details | The ePUB format allows reflowable content. This means that the content fits the size and shape of the screen it is being displayed upon, in the same way that text on an HTML page changes depending on the size of the display. An ePUB file tends to consist of three elements: archive, metadata and content. |
