AMF 3D Format AMF Converter
An Additive Manufacturing File (AMF) was developed as a 3D printing format by ASTM International. It was intended to be a successor to the STL format, which lacked material and colour data when used for 3D printing. It’s true that the AMF file format is able to store more detailed data and enables more precise models to be printed. However, it didn’t gain traction. But you still may come across these files and have to convert them to a more widely supported format.
If you’re looking to open or edit these files, your options will be more limited. Autodesk Meshmixer and certain slicers, such as UltiMaker Cura, can open and utilise this file type, but alternative formats, such as 3MF, have more widespread support from major CAD software companies.

3DS 3D Format 3DS Converter
3D Studio (3DS) is a legacy file format used by Autodesk’s 3ds Max 3D modelling software. It was used in the 1990s before being replaced by Autodesk’s MAX format in 1996. Although MAX is the newer format, you can still open and edit 3DS files through Autodesk 3ds Max and Blender. With them, you can store complete 3D scenes and models, and export the files to transfer the contents between different software with little difficulty.
Autodesk 3ds Max is one of the industry standards for 3D models and scenes, so the 3DS file format has a wide range of use cases, from drawing up architectural schematics to building levels for a video game. And while 3DS files are now superseded by the MAX files, you’ll still come across them frequently if you’re working with a large archive of 3D files.
