PLY 3D Format PLY Converter
The Polygon (PLY) file format, also known as the Stanford Triangle Format, is a 3D file format developed by Stanford University to store 3D scan data. It’s useful for storing detailed 3D mesh data from photogrammetry or scans, storing per-vertex information such as colours, transparency, texture coordinates and surface normals. The data can be stored in an ASCII or binary format, making the file flexible and easy to use; just choose the binary format for smaller file sizes and quicker loading, and the ASCII format for human readability and easy editing.
PLY files can be opened by software applications like Blender, MeshLab, Autodesk Meshmixer, and other 3D printing tools. They can also be run on macOS, Windows and Linux, making PLY a flexible format. Just keep in mind that PLY files have no native animation support, so if you need to store animation data, you may want to look for a different file format.

USDZ 3D Format
The Universal Scene Description Zipped (USDZ) file format is the packaged, ready-to-view version of the USD file format. USD files were developed by Pixar for creating and producing complex, movie-quality scenes in film, animation, and visual effects workflows. The USDZ file format, on the other hand, resulted from a partnership between Pixar and Apple, and is primarily for sharing these scenes for viewing on iOS devices. USDZ files can also be used for the exchange of 3D models between creative and technical teams.
USDZ is one of the go-to formats for AR (augmented reality) experiences, bundling all the 3D assets into a file that’s easy to render. These files can be viewed on Apple devices without needing additional software (from iOS 12 onward), but are read-only. For editing, you’d need to unzip the file and work with the original USD parts it contains.
