PLY files can be opened by software applications like Blender, MeshLab, Autodesk Meshmixer, and other 3D printing tools. They can also be run on macOS, Windows and Linux, making PLY a flexible format. Just keep in mind that PLY files have no native animation support, so if you need to store animation data, you may want to look for a different file format.
