Description ODP or OpenOffice Presentation is the default file type created by the presentation application known as Impress, which is part of the OpenOffice suite of productivity software. Similar in usage and appearance to the market leader, Microsoft Powerpoint, Impress is open source and free to download and use. Despite the similarities, Powerpoint is widely seen as the superior product. Impress allows the user to add text, images, graphics and 3D clip art to slides.

Technical Details The OpenOffice Presentation file format was developed by the OASIS industry consortium. Files are saved and compressed using ZIP compression which generally makes the file size smaller than the equivalent file created by Microsoft Powerpoint and saved as a PPT file. Usually the file will consist of an XML file, directories and thumbnails. By utilising an open source compression technique, it is often possible to repair partially corrupted files. It is also possible for advanced users to edit the rate of compression, therefore achieving higher compression ratios.
