RB eBook Format RB Converter
An RB file has a full name of RocketEditon e-Book file and was developed by NuvoMedia. An RB file was developed by NuvoMedia to allow users to read e-Books on NuvoMedia’s Rocket e-Book device which was developed in 1998. This e-Book device was quite different to e-Book readers that we are used to today. For a start, the device could only hold eight books at any one time as storage was at such a premium. The file itself is a container file format that holds a simple HTML file with information pertaining to the book and an info file that provides the required metadata. RB files were used by other applications in the late 1990s but are no longer developed or supported and have therefore greatly waned in popularity.

PML eBook Format PML Converter
The PML format was developed by Palm to use with its handheld devices. Palm personal digital assistant (PDA) devices were popular from the mid-1990s up until the late-2000s when they were superseded by smartphones. The most famous model was the PalmPilot. PML stands for Palm Markup Language. The files contained source code that could be compiled into PDB files for Palm’s eReader application. Like other digital markup languages, the code and tags used could signal paragraphs, formatting, indents and section breaks (chapters in the case of ebooks). Unlike similar file types of the time, PML also supported images, allowing people to view pictures in their ebooks.
A disadvantage with earlier Palm ebook formats was that they didn’t include digital rights management copy-protection. Palm devices were also discontinued in 2011, following the success of smartphones and ereaders like the Kindle. However, you can still usually open PML files with Calibre’s ebook management software.
