Description Apple TV is a device developed by Apple that facilitates the streaming of video, audio or images from a variety of sources, including the iTunes store, YouTube and other Apple devices or a PC running Microsoft Windows. The WiFi enabled device was initially released in 2007 and has gone through three release iterations with the most recent coming in March 2012. Technical Details The latest version of Apple TV supports H.264 video up to 1080p at 30 frames per second, or MPEG-4 up to 720x432 pixels or finally Motion JPEG up to 720p at 30 frame/s. This is sufficient for high quality video to be streamed via the Apple TV device with M4V, MP4, MOV and AVI supported. From an audio perspective the device supports MP3, AAC, WAV, AIFF and Dolby Surround Sound. JPEG, GIFF and TIFF are the supported image formats.

Technical Details MPEG-4 Part 14 or MP4, formally ISO/IEC 14496-14:2003, is a multimedia container format standard specified as a part of MPEG-4. It is most commonly used to store digital video and digital audio streams, especially those defined by MPEG, but can also be used to store other data such as subtitles and still images. Like most modern container formats, MPEG-4 Part 14 allows streaming over the Internet. A separate hint track is used to include streaming information in the file. The only official filename extension for MPEG-4 Part 14 files is .mp4.
