Description Released in 2006, the Wii is a games console created by Nintendo. The Wii was widely seen as a revolutionary console through its use of a wand rather than a conventional controlller. Along with motion sensors, the device allows users to physically carry out actions, which are then replicated in the game. This ranged from bowling, to playing tennis, to sword fighting. The Wii was marketed at a wider audience than the young male audience that conventional consoles are aimed at. As a result the games are more diverse in theme than on other consoles. Nearly 100 million units have been sold, reviving the fortunes of Nintendo after the less successful GameCube which sold 21 million units. The device is WiFi enabled and allows users to connect to web services such as Netflix, Hulu and general web content.

Technical Details The Nintendo Wii supports a resolution of up to 720x480 pixels. The Wii supports DIVX, MOV, MP4 and AVI. The recommended video format is Motion JPEG or MJPEG for short. The Wii has only 512mb of built in storage but users are still able to watch video content by connecting an SD card. Although the Wii has USB ports it is not possible to watch content via USB on the Wii. It is not possible to view DVDs on the Wii without first customising the physical device itself (known as modding) which invalidates the warranty of the Wii.

Technical Details MOV files use a proprietary compression algorithm and each track that is held within the file is made up of an encoded media stream or a reference to a media stream that is located in another file - this allows the embedding of existing media. QuickTime player which was developed and created by Apple allows a user to open and play .MOV files and later version of QuickTime Player, such as QuickTime Pro allows the user to edit and export .MOV files.
