Description Zune was a range of portable media players developed by Microsoft. First released in November 2006. The devices were marketed as a rival to Apple's iPod range but failed to gain a significant slice of the market. The initial Zune models relied on a button pad to navigate the menus, however the Zune HD, the final Zune product, featured a touch screen. The Zune is primarily used to listen to music and watch video content. Unlike the iPod, the Zune features a radio receiver. The Zune HD has a WiFi connectivity and allows the user to browse the web. The Zune allows a small number of third party apps to be downloaded from the Zune Marketplace. However new apps ceased to be released after August 2011, with Microsoft encouraging users to switch to Windows Phone products instead. Zune was also the name for Microsoft's digital media store, which has since be renamed to Xbox Music.

If M4V file does have DRM enabled then the iTunes account used to procure the file will need to be authenticated on the computer playing the file.

Technical Details The M4V file is a container that allows audio and video. In certain circumstances where Apple's DRM has not be applied to the file, it is possible to play the file from a different unauthenticated computer by amending the file extension from .m4v to .mp4. Additionally m4v provides the functionality to create chapter information which is not possible with MP4.
