Description Released in 2006, the Wii is a games console created by Nintendo. The Wii was widely seen as a revolutionary console through its use of a wand rather than a conventional controlller. Along with motion sensors, the device allows users to physically carry out actions, which are then replicated in the game. This ranged from bowling, to playing tennis, to sword fighting. The Wii was marketed at a wider audience than the young male audience that conventional consoles are aimed at. As a result the games are more diverse in theme than on other consoles. Nearly 100 million units have been sold, reviving the fortunes of Nintendo after the less successful GameCube which sold 21 million units. The device is WiFi enabled and allows users to connect to web services such as Netflix, Hulu and general web content.

Technical Details The Nintendo Wii supports a resolution of up to 720x480 pixels. The Wii supports DIVX, MOV, MP4 and AVI. The recommended video format is Motion JPEG or MJPEG for short. The Wii has only 512mb of built in storage but users are still able to watch video content by connecting an SD card. Although the Wii has USB ports it is not possible to watch content via USB on the Wii. It is not possible to view DVDs on the Wii without first customising the physical device itself (known as modding) which invalidates the warranty of the Wii.

Description The M4V file format was developed by Apple. It is very similar to the MP4 file type, with the main difference being that M4V may contain Apple's DRM protection, Fairplay. Video content downloaded from the iTunes store is likely to be in M4V format. If M4V file does have DRM enabled then the iTunes account used to procure the file will need to be authenticated on the computer playing the file.

Technical Details The M4V file is a container that allows audio and video. In certain circumstances where Apple's DRM has not be applied to the file, it is possible to play the file from a different unauthenticated computer by amending the file extension from .m4v to .mp4. Additionally m4v provides the functionality to create chapter information which is not possible with MP4.
