PPT Document Format PPT Converter
Microsoft developed the PPT format for PowerPoint, which is mostly used for creating and editing presentations. PPT files normally comprise slides of text, images and animations that can play as timed or manually controlled slideshows. Users can build presentations from scratch or use an online or company corporate template. PowerPoint is the most widely used format for presentations in both educational and work settings. It can also be used for creating reports, which users often save or print as a PDF.
Since 2007, PPTX has been Microsoft’s standard file format for PowerPoint. However, even if you have a newer version of the program, you can still use it to open older PPT files, and also to save presentations into PPT format. PowerPoint is part of the Microsoft Office suite, but some other programs, like LibreOffice, Apple Keynote or Google Slides, can also open both PPT and PPTX files.

PPTX Document Format PPTX Converter
The PPTX format was developed by Microsoft and has been the default format for PowerPoint files since 2006. Along with similar updates for other Microsoft Office formats, it was designed to replace the older PPT format. The additional X at the end represents the open XML format that makes it easier for users to share and view Microsoft Office files in other programs.

You can change PPT to PPTX within PowerPoint itself by exporting your file as a PPTX file, but there is another way without opening individual files. Online file conversion tools like Zamzar let you upload a PPT file and convert it to PPTX in real time. Zamzar’s website is secure and free for most users, and you can also convert multiple files at once.
PPT and PPTX are both Microsoft PowerPoint files, but PPTX is the newer version developed for Office 2007. PPT files will open in later versions of PowerPoint, so you should be able to open them in the program and then save them as .pptx files. If you don’t have PowerPoint, or you want to convert files without opening them, an easy way is to use a file conversion tool like Zamzar. Just upload one or more files to the tool on Zamzar’s website, select to convert them to PPTX and then download. You’ll then have the files in both formats.
You can change a PPT file format by opening it in PowerPoint and resaving it in another format like PPTX or PDF. You may also be able to rename a file extension from .ppt to .pptx in File Explorer. However, it’s recommended to save a copy before you try this method in case the file becomes corrupted.
PPTX is the newer version of PowerPoint, so it has a number of advantages over PPT, including more options for fonts, graphics, animations and interactivity. If you need to convert a PPT file to PPTX, you can do this by opening the presentation in PowerPoint and then saving it as a .pptx file. You can also convert files between PPT and PPTX with tools like the one on Zamzar’s website. Simply upload your PowerPoint file, select to convert it to the other format, and then download the new copy of the presentation.
