PEF Image Format PEF Converter
The PEF format is used for raw images taken with some Pentax digital cameras. The full name of the format is Pentax Electronic File. Raw images are the original high-definition picture captured on a digital camera’s CCD sensor. The files also include information about the image, like temperature, colour and saturation, which can be used for editing.
Photo editors, graphic designers and printers usually prefer to work with the original raw images. However, PEF and other raw images can be large files, so people often convert them into another format like JPG if they’re sharing them with others who don’t need the original HD photographs. JPG is also a better format for posting images on social media. PEF files can be opened in many programs, including Microsoft Photos, Apple Photos, Apple Preview, File Viewer for Android, Adobe Photoshop, Corel PaintShop Pro and Canvas.

PNG is a common type of image file. The file extension PNG is short for ‘Portable Network Graphic’, and the format was created to offer improvements over the GIF format. Like JPG, PNG is a 2D ‘raster’ image format. However, unlike JPG, PNG files can have transparent or semi-transparent backgrounds around a design.
