ARW Image Format ARW Converter
ARWs are raw image files taken by Sony digital cameras. The name ARW is short for (Sony) Alpha Raw image file. Raw images are lossless, and they are the original picture captured by a digital camera’s sensor. They’re sometimes called digital negatives, like the film strips in traditional cameras. You can then take these raw images and process/edit them to bring out the best qualities. While you can change your camera settings to shoot directly into a format like JPG, most people choose to keep the RAW setting as it offers much higher quality and more potential for editing.
As Sony is one of the biggest camera brands, ARW files will open in most photo viewers and editors, including Adobe Photoshop and Corel PaintShop Pro. As raw image files can be very large, many people convert them into lossy compressed formats like JPG or PNG to share photos by email or post them on websites or social media.
